Habitat: Along edges of forest swamp. Soil characteristics: Barbary Muck (BB)- very deep, poorly drained, very slowly permeable soils formed in recent, slightly fluid clayey sediments that are deposited in water and are continuously saturated and flooded. Associate plant species: Koestelezkya virginica, Melochia pyramidata, Typha latifolia. Common.
