Habitat: Locally common in 100 x 50 ft. stand of relatively undisturbed native grassland on Frio clay loam, upper edge of floodplain of river. Only spot on Missions NHP property containing this and other decreaser grassland species such as Schizachyrium scoparium. Other associates include Agalinis strictifolia, Anemone berlandieri, Aphanostephus ramosissimus, Aristida purpurea, Aster ericoides, Desmanthus virgatus, Digitaria cognata, Draba platycarpa, Engelmannia pinnatifida, Eragrostis intermedia, Gaillardia pulchella, Galium virgatum, Hedeoma drummondii, Helianthus maximiliani, Houstonia nigricans, H. parviflora, Limnodea arkansana, Lindheimera texana, Mimosa latidens, Nassella leucotricha, Panicum hallii.
