Plants were in still areas over muck in water <1m. Common assoc.: (Eleocharis robbinsii) Robbins spikerush, (Utricularia vulgaris) common bladderwort, (Brasenia schreberi) watershield, (Utricularia gibba) creeping bladderwort,
(Myriophyllum verticillatum) whorled water milfoil, (Pontederia cordata) pickerelweed.
Rare - found in a few locations in "Mud Lake". ID based on Crowe and Hellquist. Other authors consider this taxon synonymous with S. chlorocarpum. It has many fewer leaves (erect and floating) but may be an aquatic growth habit of S. chlorocarpum.
