Prairie fen with sedge meadow zone common throughout, wooded fen with many tamaracks (Larix laricina); lots of Frangula alnus. Very long, narrow fen. Split by the headwaters of the Grand River. East side owned by The Nature Conservancy, west side mostly privately owned. Grand River is too deep/silty to cross without use of footbridges. Many zones in fen. Periodic shurbby zones; invasives; Phalaris arundinacea common. 15m open corridor through Larix laricina, Toxicodendron vernix, and Frangula alnus. Hummocky ground with game trail and a downed Juniperus sp. Carex stricta dominates herbaceous later, but still coming up this season. Equisetum in places; moist ground. Northern portion of Grand River Fen.
Flowers -NA.Common, 1-2 every sq.m; growing up. Carex stricta and Asteraceae. No flowers. Less than 30cm long.
