Description: Isthmus Zapotec use the leaves as a condiment to flavor beans, soups, tamalitos empanadas (meat turnovers) and mole de amarillo The whole plant is made into a decoction and drunk for dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation) and to stimulate the menstrual flow. It is also drunk as a vermifuge to kill intestinal parasites.
