Mostly open prairie fen with strong prairie component. Bisected by Little Goose Creek. Some large swaths of Frangula alnus being treated by Michigan Nature Association. Weedy areas develop further downstream where fen narrows. Highly variable in regards to health of fen with some patches appearing pristine and other complet Phragmites australis stands. Private property is being heavily encroached by shrubs and turning the high quality fen into a patchwork of degraded/healthy fen. North arm of prairie fen; about 15m northwest of creek; area co-dominated by Asteraceae spp. And shrubs; shrubs encroaching; common shrubs include Cornus foemina, Frangula alnus, and Salix spp. Common herbaceous species include Solidago altissima, Symphyotrichum firmum, Euthamia graminifolia, Apocynum cannabinum, and Spartina pectinata; ground moist but not wet; Juniperus common in area.
Flowers -fruits are globose heads of achenes with barbed straight beaks; about 3mm wide.Scattered in area; about 1 per 2 sq. m for 20 sq. m; currently fruiting; growing singly with Solidago altissima and vined by Calystegia sepium; about 1.2 m tall.
