San Jose State University, Carl W. Sharsmith Herbarium Carl W. Sharsmith Herbarium, San Jose State University (SJSU)Founded in 1945 by Dr. Carl Sharsmith, the herbarium at San Jose State University houses a collection of more than 18,500 dried plant specimens. Many specimens were collected over Dr. Sharsmith's long career as a university professor and natural history ranger at Yosemite National Park. The collection is actively curated with approximately 500 new specimens being added every year.
