Habitat: Willow Twp. A very disturbed fen occurs along a cold, spring fed stream channel that flows N and E into the Little Sioux River (the fen owned by Randy and Shirley Kirchner). the soil here is a muck, ca 5-30 cm deep, probably a medisaprist. The fen occurs near the border between the Northwest Iowa Plains and the Southern Iowa Drift Plain, but appears to be on the Southern Iowa Drift Plain.
Notes: Berula erecta is common in the fen. The petals are white. Berula erecta is associated with Carex sp., Cicuta maculata, Helenium autumnale, Impatiens capensis, and Phalaris arundinacea.
