Willow Twp. A very disturbed fen occurs along a cold, spring fed stream channel that flows N and E into the Little Sioux River (the fen owned by Randy and Shirley Kirchner). the soil here is a muck, ca 5-30 cm deep, probably a medisaprist. The fen occurs near the border between the Northwest Iowa Plains and the Southern Iowa Drift Plain, but appears to be on the Southern Iowa Drift Plain.
Berula erecta is common in the fen. The petals are white. Berula erecta is associated with Carex sp., Cicuta maculata, Helenium autumnale, Impatiens capensis, and Phalaris arundinacea.
